چکیده
Abstract The paper sketches the state of affairs our understanding postverbal negation. It departs from typological finding that there is a cross-linguistic preference for negator to precede verb. Nevertheless, sizable proportion world’s languages adhere pattern with following verb, and such negators are typically morphologically bound. existence this pattern, unfavorable functional perspective, calls diachronic explanation. takes stock processes can lead negation, in general, suffixal particular. Furthermore, language may acquire negation through contact, yet another perspective addresses. Finally, we introduce contributions volume, highlighting new insights.
